The Co-op is a “Developmentally Age Appropriate” Preschool. The curriculum emphasizes learning through play and hands on experiences, not through academic exercises. Kindergarten classes in the Solon School District also follow a Developmentally Age Appropriate curriculum.

A typical day for the 3’s and 4’s begins with Circle Time, where the entire class sits together to talk about such topics as the weather, and what they will do that day. Next the children will spend time in “centers”. The Co-op offers a number of centers that give children the opportunity to learn while playing in different ways. For example, children “playing” at the water table will learn about measuring, pouring and various forms of water such as ice and snow. At the art table, each child will work on developing fine motor skills with cutting, gluing, painting, drawing and other similar activities. There is a separate room for the “pretend” area, which is changed on a regular basis. It may be set up as a kitchen, grocery store, office, campsite with a tent or other creative environments to foster imagination. These are just a few examples of the centers available for your child to learn and play in. Each child also learns responsibility by helping to clean up after play. The children will then have a snack together as a group.

After centers, the children are given the opportunity to develop their large motor skills. If the weather cooperates, the 3’s and 4’s spend time outside playing on climbing equipment, riding tricycles and throwing and catching balls. During wet or cold weather, the children play games and dance in a separate large room. Toward the close of class, the children again get together for circle time to read stories and talk about their day.
