Parent Helper Duties

Learning 2gether Parent Responsibilities

ARRIVAL
  • Help your child hang up coats on hooks
  • Enter the class and assist your child with “check in”
  • Play with your child and help them interact with other students
 
 
CLASS TIME
  • Help your child during circle time
  • Encourage your child during talk time/show and tell
  • Encourage your child to interact with the teacher
  • Assist your child with the day’s craft
 
 
SNACK
  • Encourage interactions between your child and others
  • Encourage your child to throw away snack wrappers and clear spot
 
 
When it is your day to bring snack, these are additional responsibilities
 
 
SNACK TIME
  • Provide snack/drink box/napkins for the day
  • Set table with placemats
  • Put out a snack and drink box at every place
  • Clean up and mess
 
 
DISMISSAL
  • Make sure that all toys/books are put away
  • Wipe down the table and chairs
  • Clean any paintbrushes, paint trays, or glue trays in the janitor’s sink
  • Vacuum carpet
  • Take the trash out to the dumpster
 
 
3s Parent Helper Duties
 
 
ARRIVAL
  • Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to beginning of class
  • School doors should remain locked until 9:00. Open doors at 9:00.
  • Post “Drop Off” sign if applicable and assist children from cars. Stand outside and be visible drop offs. Remove sign when session begins
  • Set up play dough center if needed for day.
  • Set up easel with paints and paper.
  • Assist teachers with set up of art projects.
  • If you brought a large container of beverage (you may alternately bring individual juice boxes for the students), pour two pitchers of water and two pitchers of your beverage. Store them in the refrigerator. Remember that no children are allowed in the kitchen, even when you are the helper.
  • Lock main door when all students are present.
 
 
FREE PLAY

·         Write names on easel paper, hang completed artwork to dry. Wipe up paint spills on floor.

·         Sweep up beans, rice, etc. from sensory table.

·         Assist teachers with projects.

·         Interact with kids. Play and read with kids.

 
 
CLEAN UP TIME
  • Assist children in putting away toys and equipment in their storage areas.
  • Straighten up all areas and rooms that were played in that day.
  • Wash craft utensils, paintbrushes and containers, easel trays, etc. in the sink located in the janitor’s closet. Put clean items away.
 
 
SNACK TIME
  • When the class goes to the bathroom as a group, set up table for snack. 
  • WAIT UNTIL THE CLASS HAS LEFT THE ROOM, then wash tables and use disinfectant spray. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN DISINFECTANT SPRAY BE USED WITH CHILDREN IN THE ROOM, NOR MAY IT BE LEFT IN THE ROOM. USE IT, THEN PROMPTLY RETURN IT TO THE JANITOR’S CLOSET.
  • If used, bring beverage pitchers into the classroom and set tables. Arrange snack, cup, plate/napkin at each place setting.
  • “Assist” with pouring drinks and clean up spills as needed.
  • After snack, wipe tables, clean chairs, sweep floor.
  • Wash all snack dishes, pitchers, etc. in kitchen sink.
  • Return all pitchers, utensils, etc. to the school’s cabinet in kitchen.
 
 
LARGE MOTOR TIME
  • Assist with outerwear and helmets.
  • Ask teachers if they want you to accompany them to the large motor area.
  • Disinfect tables.
  • Fold painted pictures and place in children’s backpacks. Empty children’s bins into their backpacks.
  • Other clean up can be done at this time. See “Dismissal” section below.
 
 
DISMISSAL
  • Unlock main door 10 minutes before dismissal
  • Help children with backpacks and coats.
  • Prepare bins for next class.
  • Sweep floors. Vacuum carpets.
  • Combine trash bins from classroom and take trash to outside dumpster.
 Please remember that you are part of the staff on your helper day. The teachers rely on you to perform these duties so that they can be free to set up curriculum materials and instruct children.
