The Co-op Experience

Being a part of the Solon Cooperative Preschool can be a wonderful experience for your child and for you! We are a welcoming community of families, and we’re proud of our staff, our children, and our wonderful preschool. When parents are engaged in their child’s learning, the experience is more rewarding for both child and parents.

We believe that the rewards of participating in out co-op are many:

  • Parental involvement creates confidence in kids and parents
  • Parents learn about and better get to know their child, their child's classmates, and the other parents in the program
  • Our families are part of a wonderful, supportive community invested in and committed to the success of each child as well as the overall success of the organization
  • Parents play an integral part in shaping their child’s education and educational institution
  • Parents learn from teachers, one another, and the children in the school
  • Parent involvement is respected and appreciated

Our pre-school is a parent-run cooperative and its success depends on everyone doing his or her part. Our parents manage and operate the school. In order for the school to run, each family must:

  • Assist in the classroom in a regular basis as a parent helper
  • Hold a job/committee position (everything from being part of a committee that cleans and maintains classroom toys and supplies to being a part of the Executive Board)
  • Participate in fundraising (each child has a fundraising minimum, but it is hoped that families will attempt to exceed the minimum)
  • Participate in cleaning and maintenance of the school (for example, taking part in the beginning set-up and end of school clean-up)
